Artist's Comments

Conan O Brien has been on my list to draw for a long time. And recently I've been getting into pastels so I figured I'd do a pastel portrait of him. I wasn't really sure how this one would go because this is really my first pastel portrait and it's my 3rd pastel drawing ever. I am really happy with how this came out though. I'm not sure if I am going to add a background or not. Originally, I had planned on doing one. But I kind of like the contrast with just the greyish green paper color actually. What do you guys think about a background? Hope everyone likes it and thank you for all the comments. If I do a background, I will submit that one too.

*Edit - I scanned the work and I think it's ALOT better digital representation. It's more true to life than the digi-cam pic that was previously posted.

Pastels are my favorite coloring tools, though I don't use them as much.

Amazing. I'm sure Conan would approve...and Horny Manatee.

The pastels look so vibrant. You did a great job with them.

::a way to tell you that i love you::

GO SEATTLE MARINERS!
I like it without a backround.. I think it makes him stand out more.. Nice job, by the way. How do you keep your pastels from smearing and getting everywhere once you've finished? Do you use a fixative?
And for this you should be worshiped.

Tag, you're it...
Looks amazing! Kinda reminds me of some of the master portrait artist of the 40's and 50's such as Andrew Loomis.

No background is necessary!! Background at this point would take away from your wonderful rendering of the Conan.
i agree to leave the background as it is. it kind of has that old feeling and quality about it. i like the muted colors. great great work.
