I've been having so much fun with pastels lately, I thought I'd do another one. This project was something very new to me. I think I've only done a couple of landscape drawings. This is a lighthouse on a pier in Grand Haven, Michigan. The lighthouse is very familiar to me as I have been going to the Grand Haven beach pretty much all of my life. As a child I remember jumping off of the pier into Lake Michigan. This lighthouse is very much a symbol of West Michigan, where I am from and have lived all of my life. So I really wanted to do it justice.
I am really happy with how it turned out. I was a bit leary of drawing clouds when I first started it but I soon found out that there is really nothing to them. I think the sky turned out pretty good. The steel support beams were probably the most time consuming part of this because it is very difficult to draw a straight line with pastel pencils. So I would draw the beam with pastels and then go back and straighten the lines with mechanical graphite pencils.
Hope you guys like it. It's very nice to have this done finally. Now I can move onto the next project.
12"x18" Canson Mi Tientes (gray)
Faber Castel pastel pencils and Rembrandt stick pastels (all chalk)

Begin doing what you want to do now. We are not living in eternity. We have only this moment, sparkling like a star in our hand-and melting like a snowflake...
Very nicely rendered! Has a very East-coast feel to it in chroma, tightness and subject. Keep these up an you will have your own pastel book published by North Light Books

oh so its graphite PENCILS then? hmmm... interesting indeed, this really came out nicely, for sure... ive never been there, but i know a few kids from michigan... though prolly no where near you, and much younger at that...
but... im not sure what else to say to this accept the lines turned out fantastically straight, and clouds, as you mentioned, really are easy to do... and often fun because there's not rules, and since there ever changing, you can essentially make them up :]

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
I'd like to show you some awesome nature related work from more or less unknown artists which deserve more attention - this is a must see, you won't regret it!!!
I'm a lover of visual impacts. I like brilliant colors and shapes. And I decided to collect a whole stack of deviations that reflect that taste. These pieces showcased below deserve every bit of publicity you can give them. x)P
