Artist's Comments

I got back from vacation a few days ago. I travelled up to Northern Michigan to go camping. I snapped a lot of pictures while I was there but my favorites were the night shots of the Mackinac Bridge. For those that aren't familiar with this bridge, it connects the upper and lower penninsulas of Michigan.

Turned out great, I love it! I got to play with this night time long exposure thing, seems pretty cool!

Thank you! I think the long exposure pictures are so cool looking. It makes the water look smoother and exaggerates reflections coming off the water. It makes the colors much more vibrant too which I like. Yeah, play around with it!

Here's something for you to play with - I recently posted a photo [link] where I used a technique I read in Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson (I recommend this book). You take a landscape scene toward dusk, tilt the camera up so that 90% of the view finder is on the ski, take your light reading and adjust your settings from this view, then lower the camera and take the shot. This accentuates the colors in the ski and mutes the foreground just a little. I think it turns out pretty cool.

Looks great! Your getting used to the camera now arent ya?
