Hi everyone. I want to update everyone with how the surgery went. I've been overwelmed with e-mails from people all over the world. I plan on responding to every single one but it may take a while since I only have one hand at the moment, lol.
I went to Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids, MI yesterday around 1:30 with my girlfriend and mother. They immediately got started, put an IV in my arm, and lots of drugs to calm me down. Once the nerve drugs kicked in the wheeled me out of the room and into surgery. Soon after I was completely knocked out with anesthesia. I woke up in recovery about an hour later. They told me that the surgery was a success and I need to keep my arm completely immobilized for the next 4 to 6 weeks. The doctor prescribed Vicodin for pain and an antibiotic for risk of infection. My arm is in a cast up to my elbow and in a sling.
I mentioned that I've been receiving all kinds of e-mails wishing me well. I cannot thank you guys enough. Your words have been both uplifting and encouraging. A few people actually called me on the phone too. A very talented artist named Jeral Tidwell called and talked to me on the phone for quite a while explaining how he was in a similar situation recently. I had never spoken to him before but he read the e-mail update and the story hit close to home. I can tell you all that Jeral is an incredibly talented artist with a big heart to match.
I was shocked and incredibly moved when I saw that a collection had been started on Facebook to help with my medical expenses. A few people asked me about when I described myself as a "starving artist" in my last mailing. "Are you really a starving artist??". I found that kind of funny that some people think I'm rich doing what I do. I consider myself successful. There's no shortage of commission work for me lately and I have a lot of opportunities that present themselves. But I am by no means wealthy. I am a normal, working class type. I have a day job where I'm an everyday blue collar worker.
It is not necessary but a few people have asked how they can donate to help with my medical expenses. You can go to
www.dueysdrawings.com/pricing.… and click on the Paypal logo or my home address is available at
www.dueysdrawings.com/contact.… if you'd like to send a check. Again, if you can't help it's ok, but there were a few people that have asked about helping and that info is for them. Thank you.
This will be an incredibly boring coming month for me. I am off work for my day job and there's not much I can do at my drawing table. Maybe I will try drawing or painting something with my left hand though, lol. I truely appreciate all the e-mails!! There are thousands of people that have written me lately to extend their well-wishes. I will be back in full force when I'm better and I can't wait!!
From the bottom of my heart, thank you!
